ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Motorcycle riders are getting off their bikes and working to make the holidays extra special for south Georgia Families during the 27th annual Toy Run.
Friday afternoon the Remaining Few Motorcycle Club delivered empty boxes to 50 different businesses to collect food and toys throughout the upcoming weeks.
We caught up with members of the club at the Bayou in Albany.
The group will pick up all the goods on December 12th and deliver them to the Salvation Army.
"When we started it was more or less a hand full of us. We said we needed to do something for Christmas to help kids and it grew into what it is now," said Richie Brown, Remaining Few Motorcycle Club.
The toys and food will be distributed in 12 area counties. Last year in addition to donations they were able to raise about $10,000 for toys and hope to raise that amount or more this year.

nowBuzz up! FLORENCE --

Strikers Motorcycle Club braved the cold Saturday morning for a ride to raise money for the Pee Boys and Girls Club.

Starting at S.C. Telco Credit Union, they rode about 50 miles passing through Darlington and ending at the Pee Dee Boys and Girls Club where they presented a check to director of operations Decar Brown.

“We felt like the organization was well deserving of us and we felt like we just wanted to do something for the holidays for needy ones,” Florence chapter president Gary Merrill said.

Merrill said he hopes they can hold the event annually and looks forward to doing more in the Pee Dee Area.

Strikers Motorcycle Club was founded in 1974 in Atlanta Ga., and have 10 active chapters. Six chapters are in Georgia, while the other four are in Florence, Dillon, Bishopville and Loris.

Ulysses Motorcycle - By MOTORCYCLE

THEY may have a few grey hairs, but the members of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club Macarthur branch are also showing they have hearts of gold as they get revved-up for their annual Christmas toy run in support of the Salvation Army.
More than 100 riders are expected to join in the 12th annual toy run on Sunday. The event will start at McDonald’s in Narellan at 11am before travelling to Camden and back along Menangle Rd to finish at Koshigaya Park, Campbelltown.
The club members, all motorcycle enthusiasts over 50, donate toys to the Salvos to bring some Christmas joy to underprivileged children in the Macarthur area.
“We do up the bikes and get our members to bring new, unused toys and gifts for children ranging from babies to teenagers,” Ulysses member Dot Lechner said. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s for kids in our community, so it’s a good cause. Residents are invited to check out the bikes which will be on show at Koshigaya Park between ?????? from 11.30am. The club is also holding a barbecue to raise money for the Salvation Army.
“We’d love everyone to come along and join in the fun, have something to eat and bring along a toy or gift if they can,” Mrs Lechner said.

Motorcycle trials-To Motor Sporty

Montesa Cota 4RT
Motorcycle trials, also termed observed trials, is a non-speed event on specialized motorcycles. The sport is most popular in the United Kingdom and Spain, though there are participants around the globe.
Trial motorcycles are distinctive in that they are extremely lightweight, lack seating (they are designed to be ridden standing up) and have suspension travel that is short, relative to a motocross or enduro motorcycle.
Motorcycle trials is often utilized by competitors of other motorcycle sports (such as motocross or street racers) as a way to cross-train, as trials teaches great throttle, balance, and machine control.

Characteristics

A 2000 Beta Rev 3
The event is split into sections where a competitor rides through an obstacle course while attempting to avoid touching the ground with the feet. The obstacles in the course may be of natural or constructed elements. In all sections, regardless of content, the designated route is carefully contrived to test the skill of the rider. In many local observed trials events, the sections are divided into separate courses to accommodate the different skill level of riders, who compete in skill-rated classes.
In every section, the competitor is scored by an observer (hence the sport's name) who counts how many times the competitor touches the ground with the foot (or any other part of the body). Each time a competitor touches the ground with a foot (commonly called "dabs" or "prods"), the penalty is one point.
The possible scores in each section consist of 0, 1, 2, 3, or 5. If a competitor makes their way through the section without touching the ground with a foot, they earn a score of 0 (which is called "cleaning the section"). If they touch the ground once, they receive a score of 1. If they touch down twice, they receive a score of 2. If they touch the ground three or more times, they earn a score of 3—as long as they complete the section without stalling the motor, dismounting, going out of bounds, or going backward. If the competitor fails to complete the section a score of 5 (sometimes colourfully called "a fiasco") is earned. The winner is the competitor with the fewest points at the end of the event. Some events are also timed with penalty points assessed to late riders.
There is a world indoor and outdoor championship, as well as indoor and outdoor national team "world cups" (Trial des Nations). British competitor Dougie Lampkin is notable for winning seven world outdoor titles in the 1990s and 2000s, the same number that Spanish competitor Jordi Tarrés won in the 1980s and 1990s. Previous observed trials greats include Northern Ireland's Sammy Miller (1960s), Finland's Yrjö Vesterinen (1970s). The current outdoor world champion is Antoni Bou from Spain who is also the current indoor champion.
In addition to the world championship events, there are other major events, such as the Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) and the Scott Trial.
Major current manufacturers of trials bikes are Gas Gas, Beta, Sherco, Montesa Honda, and Scorpa. In the past there have been many manufacturers, from countries such as Spain, Japan, Britain and Italy.
Classic classes exist for vintage bikes. Classes include pre-1965 or -1967 motorcycles (typically British), as well as newer vintage events for observed trials motorcycles with two rear shock absorbers. In most cases, twin-shock motorcycles were manufactured before 1985 and are typically Japanese or Spanish. A recent addition has been a class for air-cooled monoshock bikes, this covers machines up to around 1990.
A competition event is called an "observed trial" or "trial" (not plural), unless referred to as an "observed trials event." A newer name for the sport, MotoTrial, is gaining popularity, but is far from universally used or accepted.

Ducati admit Rossi interest

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi has not agreed to race for Ducati next season but the Italian team said today they were still interested in signing him.

Media reports have been rife that Rossi would sign for Ducati after Casey Stoner said last month he would be leaving for Honda next year.

Several reports have said an announcement on Rossi's move from Yamaha would come at the Czech Grand Prix on August 15 but Ducati have cooled the rumours.

"No agreement has been reached with riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden for the future MotoGP season although our interest in these riders remains," a Ducati statement said.

"Whether and when an agreement is reached, official press releases will be issued."

American Hayden already races for the team.

Rossi fractured his leg before the Italian Grand Prix in June but made a rapid recovery to race again after just a month and a half.

Nicknamed the Doctor, he is arguably Italy's biggest sports personality and a move to the top Italian team would be welcomed by millions of thrilled countrymen.

Yamaha have said they have made an offer to keep him but Rossi sparked rumours of a departure by entering the last year of his contract without a new deal.

He also said it was awkward being team mate with current championship leader Jorge Lorenzo given they were both so strong.

He has expressed an interest in a career in rallying once he is done with bikes but speculation of a move into Formula One has died down despite tests with Ferrari

Ducati moves Rossi closer to F1 - father

Valentino Rossi's switch of MotoGP teams has moved him closer to Formula One, according to his father.
The flamboyant motorcycle rider will move from Yamaha, his team for the past seven years, to the Italian marque Ducati for 2011 and 2012.
And his father Graziano, also a former motorcycle world championship rider, thinks the switch moves his son closer to F1.
"Valentino is not yet able to stop with the motorcycles," Rossi Snr told Italy's Sky Sport.
"But if in three or four years he will get into Formula One, then what better road than with Ducati?" Graziano added. "This seems like a big step forward."
Ducati and Ferrari share a common sponsor in Marlboro, traditionally appearing together for the start-of-season Madonna di Campiglio media event.
